Migraciones sónicas: resonancias que nos sostienen mientras caminamos a través de rituales telemáticos hacia la agencia colectiva
En esta charla, reflexionaré sobre mi búsqueda de migraciones sónicas, las resonancias que quedan entre nuestras divisiones cuando nos sintonizamos y nos encontramos con otrxs en lugares distantes. Derivado de mi experiencia en Deep Listening® a mi propia migración geográfica y cultural, describiré la evolución de mi proceso artístico de escuchar buscando un sentido de lugar y presencia a través de performances sonoras telemáticas, y también participando en la creación de interfaces que nos sostienen colectivamente entre fragmentos de sonido, recuerdos y diversidad de percepciones a través del tiempo y el espacio. Me centraré en mi última experiencia con la creación de la INTIMAL App©, en el contexto actual de pandemia y las angustias compartidas de separación y desconexión. Lo estoy desarrollando como una interfaz incorporada que contiene un espacio intersticial vibratorio a medida que nos sintonizamos con el entorno que nos rodea, nuestro ritmo de caminar y respirar, improvisaciones vocales emergentes e intervenciones sonoras compartidas con otros en lugares distantes. Desprovista de geolocalizaciones y jugando con diferentes niveles de inmediatez, direcciones y tiempo, la INTIMAL App© invita a realizar rituales oníricos, para el surgimiento de redes de presencia. Propongo estas resonancias compartidas creadas colectivamente, como nuestras migraciones sonoras: resonancias que nos sostienen mientras caminamos a través de rituales telemáticos y fortalecen nuestra agencia colectiva.

Ximena Alarcón, es una artista-investigadora sonora colombiana radicada en el Reino Unido y tutora certificada en Deep Listening®, con un doctorado en Tecnología e Innovación Musical. Le interesa escuchar la experiencia migratoria humana, a la que llama 'migraciones sónicas'. A lo largo de su carrera, ha creado improvisaciones sonoras telemáticas e interfaces para la escucha relacional, para entender sensorialmente su experiencia migratoria y la de otros, como en busca de una interfaz colectiva que contenga ese intermedio sonoro. Sus principales proyectos son el entorno en línea Sounding Underground (Early Career Leverhulme Trust Fellowship, 2007-2009), la serie de performances telemáticas Networked Migrations (CRiSAP, 2011-2017) y el sistema interactivo INTIMAL for Relational Listening (Marie Skłodowska Curie Individual Fellowship , 2017-2019). Trabaja de forma independiente y es residente en The Studio en Bath, donde recibió el premio The Studio Recovery Fund por el proyecto 'Unlock' para implementar y probar la aplicación INTIMAL©. Sostiene y apoya el territorio virtual INTIMAL como espacio de experimentación y plataforma de escucha de mujeres migrantes, y lidera el colectivo INTIMAL.

Sonic Migrations: resonances that hold us as we walk through telematic rituals towards collective agency
In this talk, I will reflect on my search for sonic migrations, the resonances left in-between our known divisions when we tune in and meet others across distant locations. Derived from my experience practising Deep Listening® to my own geographical and cultural migration, I will describe the evolution of my artistic process of listening searching for a sense of place and presence through telematic sonic performances, and also engaging in the creation of interfaces that holds us collectively in-between sound fragments, memories and diversity of perceptions across time and space. I will focus on my latest experience with the creation of the INTIMAL App©, in the current context of the pandemic and the shared anxieties of death, separation and disconnection. I am developing it as an embodied interface that holds a vibrational interstitial space as we tune in with the surrounding environment, our walking and breathing pace, emerging vocal improvisations and sonic free interventions shared with others across distant locations. Devoid of geo-locations and playing with different levels of immediacy, directions, and time, the INTIMAL App© invites to perform dream-like rituals, for the emergence of networks of presence. I propose these shared resonances created collectively, as our sonic migrations: resonances that hold us as we walk through telematic rituals and strengthen our collective agency.

Ximena Alarcón, is a UK-based Colombian sound artist-researcher and Deep Listening® certified tutor, with a PhD in Music Technology and Innovation. She is interested in listening to the human migratory experience, which she calls 'sonic migrations'. Throughout her career, she has created telematic sonic improvisations and interfaces for relational listening, to understand sensorially her and others’ migratory experience, as if in search of a collective interface that holds such sonic in-betweeness. Her major projects are the online environment Sounding Underground (Early Career Leverhulme Trust Fellowship, 2007-2009), the series of telematic performances Networked Migrations (CRiSAP, 2011-2017), and the interactive system INTIMAL for Relational Listening (Marie Skłodowska Curie Individual Fellowship, 2017-2019). She works independently and is a resident at The Studio in Bath, where she was awarded The Studio Recovery Fund for the project ‘Unlock’ to implement and test the INTIMAL App©. She holds and supports the INTIMAL virtual territory as an experimental space and listening platform for migrant women, and leads the INTIMAL collective.
